We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth

*A hug is a near universal form of physical intimacy, in which two people put their arms around the neck, back, or waist of one another and hold each other closely. If more than two persons are involved, this is referred to as a group hug. A hug can be given as an indication of support, comfort, and consolation, particularly where words are insufficient. A hug is usually a demonstration of affection and emotional warmth, sometimes arising out of joy or happiness at meeting someone or seeing someone that they have not seen in a long time.*
So, that was the wikipedia explanation of a hug but really, what does a 'Hug' mean? I know a hug always makes me feel better whether I am the giver or the receiver! I am a Hugger! I love hugging everybody! Whether they are my family, best friend or a complete stranger~I hug! I think a good hug speaks directly to your soul, making you feel loved and special. I love a big hug from my children, it makes me feel very Special! My children in Africa always benefit from a hug. A hug for them is more important than anything~more than a new shirt, new jeans, a barbie or any material thing. The material things are gone or broke after a while but a HUG will last forever. They will feel special, loved and the smile that comes when you hug a child is unforgetable. When I am in Africa at Karim Orphanage, I NEVER miss a night of hugs! Every child receives a Big Hug from Mama Linda and is tucked into bed with a big smile because I know, that Hug will make them feel safe and warm and loved.
Also, 'Hugging' has been proven to have health benefits!

Studies show that hugs do save lives. Premature babies who receive touch therapy, or hugs, cry less, gain weight faster and have more relaxed pulse, respiration, and muscle tension. Children in orphanages who are deprived of hugs or contact lose weight, are more prone to illnesses, and at times die. A hug can save lives!
