Here are some very sad statistics about the girls of Tanzania.
*3 in 5 are living with HIV
*2 in 5 are pregnant or have a child by the age of 19
*1 in 3 are married by the age of 18
*2 in 3 DO NOT attend secondary school
About 82% of the girls in Tanzania attend primary school, which is our elementary school, because it is more affordable for the locals or the majority of the girls will have a sponsor. But only 2 of 3 of these girls will attend secondary school, which is the last 5 years of school, grades 8 to 12. This is because secondary schools here are boarding schools, which means more money. Double the money! Most parents can not afford this and a lot of sponsors will stop their sponsorships because of the cost as well.

| Salma, 18 years old and our first to graduate. |
If these girls were to stay in school, all those stastics above would change drastically. Hundreds of teenage girls get pregnant everyday because they are not in school. An educated girl will have less children than one who is not educated.

I thank God for people like Mama Jody and her family for sponsoring Salma's secondary school or Salma could have been one of these statistics. Instead, Salma was one of our first girls to graduate. Trust me, her life will be changed forever.

Glory,5years old 2nd year of school and
Upendo, 3 years old, first year at school |
So, please, help be the change today for some young girl! Education for Girls in Tanzania is critical. Lets change these sad statistics and keep these big smiles on their faces. If you can't do a full sponsorship we have an education fund at Bridges of Hope. Every little bit helps. The Education Fund is used for this purpose, to keep the children in school.
