Volunteers all Summer!

So, the 4 Toronto volunteers, Lauren, Jenny, Jen & Niki have arrived at Karim. These girls are friends of my daughter, Lisa, and went to University together in London, Ontario. These girls decided to make the BIG trip to Africa and stop and pay a visit to Karim, just to see for themselves how 'beautiful' these children really are. Of course, these girls wanted a project to do while there and wanted to do some fundraising. Their project~a new water tower and tank and the cost would be around $5000-$6000. Well, after just a few short months, the girl's grand total from their fundraising came to a whopping $8700.00!!! Great job girls! So the water tower & tank is going up as we speak and this will help with our water shortage. As soon as they send me some pics, I will post them.

Also there, are Mama Jody and her daughter, Danielle. This is Jody's second trip and Danielle's first. They are doing some more of the graffiti wall and doing a 'Goat' project~building a cage and purchasing a couple of goats. Danielle is a Rotarian from Lethbridge and will be attending a Rotary Meeting in Arusha as well, to see how we can maybe join forces. Danielle's Rotary Club "the Urban Spirits are taking on the project of the Volunteer House better known as the "Rafiki House" . While there, Danielle will clear the ground in preparation of the construction of this house and plant her sign! Thanks Danielle & Mama Jody.

At the start of July, a group of 4 from London, England arrived. Actually one is from Lethbridge, Mary Ellen, a school teacher and her children from London. They are all school teachers and will be going Sotwa School, where all the Karim Children go, and helping out in the classes. Mary Ellen will also help fund a new water well. Thanks MaryEllen.

Thank you to all the visitors & volunteers! You are helping change these woman and children's lives in a big way. They love having someone there, not for the gifts, but they need someone to play, sing & dance with; someone to hug; someone to tuck them into bed at night; but most importantly~someone to love them & to know they exist!
